Honoring Our Fathers & Mothers
Sara Hege married Carl Graham Conner on Saturday, June 13, 1953. Sara Conner was a wonderful mother to Charles (Char) Graham Conner and Gary Bryce Conner. She graduated with honors from East Carolina College in 1951 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree and was named to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She also earned her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, North Carolina. She served as a faithful Pastor's wife for about twenty-five years before she passed. She worked much of her life as a Public School Librarian. Sara was excited to have been a writer and published author.
Sara lost her father, Luther James Hege just about a month before her 14th birthday. Because her mother, Forrest Spaugh Hege was unable to take care of four children by herself, Sara was place in foster care with Pastor Charles and Murphy Mildred Martin Burchell from Greensboro, NC. The Burchell's were excellent foster parents and assisted Sara in graduating high school and going to East Carolina College. Pastor Charles Burchell (July 14, 1891 - February 1, 1975) also officiated at the wedding of Sara Elizabeth Hege and Carl Graham Conner.
